Beginners' Questions .pdf editing

    I've recently added a Raspberry Pi to my home computing setup. The first graphics package I installed to both the Pi, and my Windows desktop was GIMP. I always planned on getting around to installing Inkscape whenever I found a need for it, which would definitely happen at some point.
    The reason I've downloaded the Windows version right now is because I need to edit a .pdf file, and Inkscape came up in a Google search for suitable apps, whith which to do this.
    I'm a small press publisher, and I use Scribus on the Pi to produce the 'pdf for uploading to Amazon, etc. for the print copy.
    For obvious reasons, this .pdf does not support active links, so I need an editor that will allow me to connect the content page entries to the individual items within the book, and also allow me to make clickable online links.
    Can Inkscape actually do this, or did my search mislead me?

    Yes this is possible and actually very easy once you understand the process.

    1. select what you want to function as a link.

    2. Right click and find: Create Link

    3. Object attributes will open - but in URL at "Href." and at "Target:" _blank Β  Β this enables a new browser window to display the URL

    4. Save as->PDF done

    PDF does support standard links with the target="_blank"Β attribute.

    I have attached 3 files. SVG, Screenshot from Inkscape and PDF.Β

    I believe text can just used as Textobject for linking in InkscapeΒ not single words as I tried - not sure how Scribus this handles.. But the DTP software I use can link per Glyph if needed.

    Thanks all. Scribus can handle the linking OK, but it can't cope with very large files, so I have to make a separate .pdf for each file, then stitch them together. This means I can easily fix the links in those individual chapters, but I can't link the contents page to the chapters.
    I discovered that you can edit the .pdf in LibreOffice Draw, but the complete .pdf was simply too big to load. The Pi actually has more memory than my old desktop, but it just took longer to crash. I'll see if I can get more joy with Inkscape, but if not, I realised that I can simply make a complete .odt file of the entire book, open and edit it in LibreOffice, then export to .pdf.
