Hi, I am just getting started with Inkscape and working with patterns along path. For some reason some of the shapes in my pattern are not filling properly when I combine them?
I have spent many hours trying to figure this one out on my own but I can not seem to figure it out. Attached is a close up picture of the no fill on shapes problem and also my SVG file.
Thank you, @TylerDurden for your time and efforts creating this visual tutorial, this was exactly what I needed and extremely helpful for someone who is a visual learner like me! I also learned from your tutorial about X-Ray which is a huge help with this operation!!!
Also a big shout out to @Aero for the additional tip!
On another note, same subject, I am getting unexpected results trying to get another pattern to follow a path. It turns into a mandala which is interesting but not following the path as expected. Is there a particular state that the pattern needs to be in before pasting it to follow the path?
@TylerDurden Yes precisely that! πΒ So... would I be correct in assuming that any pattern that I'd like to follow along a path, should not contain any groups?
HI im very new to inkscape and have been following a tutorial from Chandwell on Youtube "making realistic roads" which basicaly shows pattern along path i.e. white linein middle of road, so im drawing the shape copy and dulpicating the path and going to path effects and pasting from clipboard along path but the ov=bejrcts are hollow. Any help would be appreciated.
@Derekm: Your shape is hollow because it has no fill colour. Select a colour from the pallet at the bottom of the screen or use the Fill and Stroke dialog [shift+ctrl+f].

The filled sub-paths need to be reversed.Β Easy to break all apart, reverse the offenders and re-combine.

Without breaking apart, sub-paths can be reversed directly by selecting a node or segment using the node tool, then reverse (shift+r).

Here's what the manual says:
The Path-effect version of PaP requires only paths.Β http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-LivePathEffects-PatternAlongPath.html
Β
The extension version can use groups.Β http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Extensions-GenerateFromPath.html#Extensions-PatternAlongPath
@TylerDurden Thank you again for your help, instruction and links!. I can see that there is a lot to explore with PaP and thanks to you I'm on my way.
Can this type of functionΒ Β http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-LivePathEffectsΒ .......... Β Β PatternAlongPath.htmlΒ we perform in online website like Canva or any type of website?
