Hi for some reason I am unable to import or open dxf files from earlier work. Even if I create a new file, save to desktop open new project and try to import open the new file it just hangs the computer. Not total newbie.

I have not used the computer for about a month and first noticed the problem trying to import newly downloaded dxf files. So i tried with older work and then a file i just created today as I said previously. Restarted laptop etc. maybe I need to update to version 1.0?  Hope you can help

    Regards

Should be no issue in .92.xx.

You could try renaming the preferences.xml to preferencesOLD.xml and let Inkscape make a new one on relaunch.

Thanks for suggestion. It seems that Inkscape was being incredibly "laggy"  e.g. import previous dxf.... nothing happens then up on top it displays "not responding" exept in Swedish, then after 30 seconds the file appears which was a wireframe, drag & select the whole drawing and the selection box stays for about 10secs then dissapears then it will show selected. Ctrl K to combine as it is ungrouped then a further 10-20secs to complete it. Not a graphics heavy laptop but sufficient in my opinion to cope with this. So it does load justa has become very "laggy"

    Thanks again for suggestion

Could be the dxf is full of tiny segments to represent the arcs. Feel free to share an example that we can examine.

I think you should use a DXF file viewer, with the viewer tool you can view corrupted files as well.
