I have created the attached file as a logo but the using text and a contour mask, but the text doesn't display in some other programs or for example in photoshop the contours don't show.
I have tried converting the text back to text and text to paths as seems to be suggested as a possible issue but that doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone have any suggestions! Help much appreciated.
Whoops. I didn´t saw your upload while replying. The loading times of this forum sometimes remind me of 54k-modem times.
PS.: Talking of "real" file size; Your is with 78KB much more optimized than mine. I can´t get it smaller than 178KB - somehow weird.
PS2.0.: kinda ridiculous. been through our files. While mine has less nodes it´s still larger. After saving to optimized SVG and running through some 3rd party file cruncher it´s still 88KB. Really - I don´t get it.
Forget the uploaded one. I crunched it here to 88KB - but can't get it any smaller though mine has less nodes. That's what I don't understand. Talk to you later.
What you don't get is the importance of knowledge about the SVG code. Inkscape is a SVG editor! How much code is necessary describing a cusp node compared to describing a smooth node! Attached is your file, all nodes converted to cusp nodes as an example.
Temper your tone. The high-field lines are the result of Inkscape´s Potrace´s autotrace implementation. I´m on vector drawing since 1987 - SVG standards aren´t just non existent at that time - we´re writing PS-code for the first available Laserprinters at that time. And I don´t care about 10KB difference in the end - that´s just a staircase joke. If you think the difference between cusp and smooth makes so much of a difference, then the idea of SVG is sick. Since 2004 I'm busting my ass for the Inkscape project and then someone like you comes around the corner. I really don't need that and quit.
(And it goes even smaller if anyone is interested.)
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their contributions. I have to say I don't fully understand the fix (so I don't end up creating a mess when trying something similar. Can anyone point me towards a way to mask the contour lines and from the text and overlay without it going wrong and or how they fixed my file.
"I would make each object a path, then use duplicates and path operations to compose the design"
Is this referring to object to path? Not quite sure what to do after that? Any step by step best practice would be helpful.
Also is it possible to get something that has the details on the lines as per Tyler Durdens file but that the line are cut out of the text? So that the background or text could change colour?
In the attached file I removed all strokes from the contour path and the text path before selecting both and applied path - difference. Is this the new look you want?

I guess this version will work everywhere:
White text regardless of background.
Didn´t noticed that in the briefing - but easy enough:
You sure beat me on file-size! 😂

Keep it as simple as possible. Avoid strokes, masking and clipping in the final file.
All you need is one white path on top of a red solid circle.
I don't have any clipping/masking used; mine is just the red shape including the highfield lines plus white rectangle underneath.
No, 3 objects, red white and pink. Why do you have a pink rectangle in your file? Why Isn't your red circle solid?
These seems artifacts from the original file. Will have to investigate later. But didn't explain a descrepancy from 78 to 88KB in file size.
Your file is 225KB.

Also thanks again - I really appreciate it.
The original contour file I used is below
