Beginners' Questions Non-symmetrical smooth node

Trying to make the groin area and the rightmost node should be a smooth but also non-symmetrical.

Right now the node is corner but i dont need the triangle shape end.

If I make the node smooth then adjacent paths will be forced to be symmetrical - not what I need

I'm not sure which path you're talking about, but I'll give it a go.

Changing a node from corner to smooth reveals two control handles representing tangents at either side of the node. The curve may appear to be symmetric but you can adjust these handles independently. Use the [ctrl] key as you drag if you want to preserve the slope of the tangent.

The manual's section on controls in the node-tool may be helpful.

I note that the nodes in the path only have one Bezier handle extended. To extend the second handle, Shift drag on the node.

    Briefly stated, node modes:

    • Corner: handles are independent in angle and magnitude
    • Smooth: handles are independent in magnitude, but symmetric in angle
    • Symmetric: handles are symmetric in magnitude and angle
    • Auto smooth: nodes will automatically adjust to maintain a smooth path when it or one of its neighboring nodes are moved.

Please see video: Created closed path, made 1 node smmoth and tried dragging the control handles.

    https://disk.yandex.ru/i/yco1CLebIkxFww

Odd drags - doen withou control key
Even drags - done with control key

Unless I adm doing somethinh wrong nothing seems to change.

    Thanks!

For corner nodes use [shift+drag] to reveal a control handle and again to show the second control handle. Move the handles to adjust the angles. If you must have a smooth node, change the node type but this will change the curve.

Experiment with the modifier keys [ctrl] [shift] [alt] to see how they change the behaviour.

You can also adjust the node using the keyboard. [>] and [<] will lengthen/shorten the handles. [ [ ] and [ ] ] will rotate the handles. [left_alt+] adjusts one handle only and [right_alt+] adjusts the other. Note that I'm using a mac so the key combinations might be different on your machine.

How come making node smooth did modify it for you?

Here is what making corner node smooth made in my case:

    Corner
