Hi, I'm trying to fill in a shape that was originally a pdf doc but this keeps happening. Even when I manually join the lines either by edit node or making another tiny line it still happens all the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I can tell you why....you have segment where there are two open nodes. I am not able to explain this in technical terms, but I will see if I can find the video. The way I fix my error, is by duplicating the layer and pulling the shaded area in the opposite direction until I see the exposed nodes.
I am not sure who I am actually replying to - Adam or Jonathan. Hi to both. In short this is a TOPIC SUBJECT you need to really learn and understand. SVG's are all about NODES and manipulating them. A simple answer can not be given without understanding the structure. To learn I would recommend watching videos on YouTube specific on inkscape nodes. Think of it similar to learning how vowels work in the alphabet.

How can I connect the nodes? I've tried to do this but it doesn't make a difference.

@adamhaze85b147f951e284467/, Please post the file with the issue for evaluation.
PDF files are frequently a collection of open paths, buried in groups and clipping.
