I am creating my own images for numbers. For example, as you can see by the attached image I created the number "2"
I created the number "2" image using two other images and then unioning them together. I get the desired result, however when I put a stoke around the image it puts stoke lines around each seperate image which I used to crea ote the final image with. So how can I get inkscape to view the created number 2 image as one whole image as opposed the two different images I used to create the final image with? Please see attached image to understand what I am talking about.
I'm fairly new to this myself, but I would suggest you make sure there is an overlap before you try to union them, don't just have them barely touching.
It is confusing to be honest. Some path (and Live Path Effects) operations will only work on paths, some will accept objects, some will accept groups, some won't accept symbols. This is why if I can't figure something out I will just use the Shape Builder tool. If the status bar displayed "Hey Dummy, you need to ungroup that and convert to paths and it will work. However, I am super smart and did it for you anyway. Now say THANK YOU "

Hi welcome to Inskcape. No, your suggestion did not work, even if overlap the issues still occurs. Let's wait to hear back from an expert. Thanks.
Please share an Inkscape SVG file that has the issue, for us to examine.
Thanks Tyler, SVG attached.

At no point have you actually applied path union operation. Making a group is something completely different.
And path>union on a group does nothing. Nothing in the status bar will tell you that the union failed.
Ungroup then path>union
Please see: Path Operations.
Once again, you guy are so awesome. Thanks for the help. I get it now.
Good info on the path operations, thanks Tyler. I found this video which is Awesome:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRj3H1-jEWY&t=35s
