Hello! I cannot change the fill color of objects that, now, suddenly, have a little upper-left square bracket next to a little lock (in a square). This is NOT the lock that appears to the right when the object is locked. Also, the names of these unchangeable objects start with “use…"

Could someone please tell me what this icon means, and how to unlock so I can change the fill color? Thanks!

Might be clones... they can be made to paths/groups using the unlink button in the commands bar.

The status bar will describe the object when selected.

Hello! Thanks so much. That’s exactly what they were. I discovered that the Status Bar text is actually meaningful and hit SHIFT-D to discover the original, which is the One Ring that rules all the clones. Thanks!
