I just upgraded to Inkscape 1.3 and it seems that when I'm trying to edit a design by removing extra nodes, the design kind of collapses in the absence of those nodes. I don't seem to be able to use handles on the remaining nodes to 'rebuild' the design. This is a practice I used to do all the time prior to updating versions. Not sure what has happened but appreciate any idea on how to correct- Thanks!

Looks to me like Preferences > Node Tool > Deleting nodes preserves shape is not checked.
Did you reset preferences after installing? The default is on for this setting.
