Beginners' Questions Justified Text is greyed out.

I tried checking bug reports but found nothing related to this particular issue. I searched the forum and found nothing either, but I do recall reading a postโ€”probably within the last month or soโ€”where someone was asking about this very problem. At the time I was still using 1.2, but since I upgraded toย Inkscape 1.2.2 (732a01da63, 2022-12-09), I certainly am.ย

Is there something I can do to make this work? This is absolutely necessary for me. I'm creating a fake newspaper (not an icon) and justified text is a must.ย

Any advice? Should I report this as a bug?

Unfortunately no. That's about the alignment tool but not one of the options being grayed out. They specifically spoke about justified text being grayed/greyed out. Is this not happening then to anyone else? I wonder what's interfering with it? I've attached a screen cap.

You need to use "Text in a shape".

Will work here, by dragging a rectangle before typing.

This is "Text in a Shape" then.

Described in the status bar as "Flowed Text".

Here as "text in a shape" with Inkscape1.3b

Ja, it's inconsistent... in the editing mode it's displayed as "flowed-text", in select mode it's displayed as "text in a shape". In the text preferences, it's described as flow or auto flow. ::shrug::

Wow! Thank you both. I'll go and play around a little with it now. I truly appreciate it, but what about the option? Shouldn't that get fixed?

I doubt this is a bug. "Justified/Justified Left/ (Blocksatz in German)"ย text needs kind of frame to work upon. Otherwise how would you handle text columns like this?

I see, well thanks so much! I LOVE your example. I'll have to learn how to do that. lol!
