I have v1.0.0 installed on a Windows 10 laptop and I am trying to upgrade to v1.1.x. The download page emphasizes that one should uninstall the previous version before upgrading.
However, my attempt to do so from the Windows Apps dialog results in a long delay on the "preparing to remove" dialog to a failure alert that says "install server not responding".
Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?
Barring that, does anyone know if I can just go ahead with installing 1.1.x over the current 1.0.0 install?

I would not install over.
Was Inkscape installed via the Windows app store?... or downloaded from Inkscape.org...?
