Beginners' Questions inkscape not properly opening

I'm having a very strange problem. Windows 7 machine still here for now.

If I try to open inkscape 1.1.2 on windows or open a file in inkscape I don't see anything and it doesn't appear to open on my screen. If I look in the task manager I see Inkscape running under Processes, and taking around 55MB, but not under applications. Nothing I try seems to open it but every time I try to open it I see another instance I see a 2nd instance running in Process but still not in Applications. Prior to this some plug ins were not working correctly and returning errors so I had assumed something got corrupted.  I uninstalled Inkscape and re-installed it. When I do this it runs correctly exactly once and the plug ins that were not working work fine again. Close the app and I can't get it to open again. Reinstall it works again once.

This is very strange, Any ideas? I have no idea how to trouble shoot this.

If Inkscape is visible in the task manager processes, but not on screen.

    * I assume that there is no icon in the taskbar at the bottom of the windows screen. If there is, hold down shift whilst right clicking, select 'move' then use the arrow keys to move it back on screen (if 'move' is not visible select 'restore' then 'move') *

Otherwise, I would kill all instances of Inkscape in the task manager ( or restart windows ) then remove the Inkscape user folder.

    * This will completely erase any extensions / preferences / keyboard shortcuts * However since you have already uninstalled Inscape before - this may not be a concern.

The user folder is located at:

    c:\users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\inkscape

This way we know there are no none core extensions running.

( as a side note, I did see someone installing extensions into c:\program files\inkscape\share\inkscape\extensions - which is incorrect )

    Then start Inkscape.

If this does not work. Try opening Inkscape from the command prompt.

In the windows search bar, start typing the word 'Command', and 'Command Prompt' will be selected

cd "c:\program files\inkscape\bin"     ( windows also supports 'tab' autocomplete too )

    inkscape.exe

Then see if there are any messages at the very end of the text that shows up.

You can press Ctrl+C to kill this instance of Inkscape.

To kill any existing running Inkscapes:

    tskill /A inkscape*

As a last resort, you could try opening Inkscape from the command prompt with

    inkscape.exe -g
