I am new to Inkscape and trying to learn how to use it. I launched Inkscape I tried to open a pdf or a jpg file containing a figure I created in different software (e.g., a histogram), but Inkscape crashes immediately. I googled for solutions and found that if the file is too large, this can happen. But my files are small (less than 200 kb). Does anyone have a clue how to fix this or where to find a solution?
When I installed XQuartz, it said it finished installing it, but I restarted the computer but there was nothing left to do to install XQuartz (I thought it was part of the installation instruction for Inkscape). I launched Inkscape and the application opens, but when I try to open a file, it crashes. I have MacBook Pro with Mojave v. 10.14.6.
Thank you for your quick response! Inkscape opened files via File > Import. Maybe I was supposed to import, not open, a pdf file or a jpeg file. I have lots to learn about Inkscape!
I'm glad you found a way to get your files open. But as far as I know, Inkscape should be able to open a PDF. However it is proper to import a JPG in Inkscape.
For crashing on open, if it persists, we should probably troubleshoot. It sounds like there might be some question about whether you have installed correctly. But especially lately, I'm more confused than ever about installing Inkscape on Macs. But others here can help, if you still have questions or problems.

So Inkscape doesn't open any files, neither via File > Open nor via File > Import?
