I just installed Inkscape on Mac. The UI is somehow not displayed correctly. I seems like tho font is missing. How can I solve this problem?

    Thanks in advance

Can you check if you have "Helvetica Fractions" enabled - It´s not that font I know - but this is the one produces the most issues on macOS with Inkscape. Disable it in FontBook and restart Inkscape. And try Inkscape->Preferences->System->Reset Preferences as well. Inkscape needs a restart.

    👍

I looked in Font Book and don't appear to have Helvetica Fractions at all.  However Font Book did alert me to the fact that I had two versions of Helvetica Regular installed, so I clicked on 'Resolve Automatically' and its switched off the duplicates.

I think I've managed to Reset Preferences, but unfortunately it's tricky to know which button that is because of the font issue!

I've gone back into Inkscape and that hasn't resolved it.  I will try a restart now and let you know if that resolves it...

Nope. Restarted and it's the same issue :-(

Can´t find this font or where it´s embedded in. Too many and too large list of glyphs.

Likewise.  I've searched through the Font Book and it isn't there.  Have searched online as well but can't find anything like it.  It's almost like the programme is putting it there because it doesn't have any fonts to use, so it's using underlying numerical code blocks instead?  [That is the theory of someone who knows next to nothing about coding though!!!]

Same here. It don´t have to be an explicit font - just look into AppleSymbols-font and its endless list of glyphs.

There´s now an open issue here: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/3532

If you could provide any more info that would be great - it must be tackled down.

I know this is an old thread but I am on a new Mac Studio running Monterey and I had the same problem. I had an older version that was running fine. Fortunately I didn't empty the trash on the old version so I could pull it out of the trash see that is still worked fine. So following your advice (Polygon) I went into Font Books but I couldn't find Helvetica Fractions. I have Helvetica and Helvetica Neue. So I went to the top of the menu and unchecked Helvetica (disabling it). After quitting and restarting Inkscape that seemed to do the trick. I turned Helvetica back on and reopened Inkscape and it was broken again. I disabled the font again and quit and reopened Inkscape and all was well, so I'd would agree that there is definitely something in that font that is causing the problem.

This comment in the linked report has another workaround, by editing style.css file: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/3532#note_961975066

    Hallo,

it seems that the issue was not really solved, I'm experiencing the same issue both with Inklab and Gimp, on Macbook Pro 13" processor M2

    Best!
