Beginners' Questions Inkscape 1.1 and fixing a scale

    Hello !
A couple of years ago, I tried Inkscape of a previous version (0.92) to draw a windrose. It was very powerfull !

Now I had like to test the 2D and 3D features of Inkscape v. 1.1 which I just downloaded on my PC. A lot of things to remember ... and I a question arose :

I try to draw lines at a scale of 1:5 ; I need 18 cm in the canvas to correspond with 90 cm of a real lenght (the length of my fishtank). Every drawer has to setup his document properties once, probably. I went to the 'Document Properties' and put 'Scale X' to 5. But my concern is that in the upper toolbar (with X:, Y; and W:) displays numbers in cm in the canvas (18 cm), And I had like to be able to input my lengths in the real amounts (90 cm).

Is this possible ? What's the link to a forum discussion answering this issue ?

    Kind Regards and thanks

I would work full scale (1:1), then make the drawing 1:5.

Draw rectangles - enter precise sizes.  Do not use stroke as It saddles the fill and throws off measurements - or - account for the stroke and add it to your measures.

    Draw full scale.

    Select all - Object - transform - scale - 20% h - 20% w - apply

    Move drawing to your page.

    Dear Nelchai and Tyler

    Thanks for your answers.

In 'Transform', I put the scale I desired (20 %). But I had like now, when I want to draw a straight horizontal line,

    1) and when I've selected the 'Bezier ...lines' knob, to see in a toolbar the width W and height H displays showing the current dimension of the line that I'm extending

    2) to be able to put in these 4 displays the real values of the straight line I'm drawing; f. i. 90 cm instead of 18 cm.

I think to remember that it was possible in the v. 0.92 of Inkscape. Not in v. 1.1 ?

    Many thanks.

Working full scale allows entry of correct values... why not work full scale?
