Hi all, guys have a problem. Using Inkscape for laser cutting and engraving. Sometimes need to open BMP files are created in photoshop. Inkscape for some reason changing dimentions of the file for example creating file 120*120mm 240dpi in photoshop , but inkscape will open it as 100*100mm with dpi taken from the file. Why it's happening and hoe to fix it?
Hi Ran. First, check under Edit>Preferences>Input/output>bitmaps. What are your settings there? Does it help if you checkmark the 'ask about linking/scaling' option? While I'm not the best person to answer your question fully, while waiting for someone who is, it would be helpful if you could give us the steps on how you are getting the file into inkscape. Are you using file>import or dropping and dragging, etc. Also, if you want someone here to test it and take a look, pls attach the file.
HI Ran, To me it looks like you use the correct settings, so I do not know how to change this behaviour. You could look into the difference between dpi and ppi.
Ppi is a rendering size, for use on screens. Dpi is a printer setting. I know Photoshop internally uses 72 ppi and Inkscape 96 ppi, which is exactly the difference in size. So if you have a file of 120 mm with 72 ppi in Photoshop, it will render 20% smaller in Inkscape, at 100 mm. Is this helpful somehow? ____________
You can easily use the scale function in Inkscape to scale it to the right size, if you know the exact dimensions. Ctrl+Shift+M opens the menu. Go to scale and choose mm. Also check scale proportionally. Then you type in width or height and the other side adjusts with it. Choose apply.

Inkscape - import bmp , image DPI (from file), image rendering mode (none automate)
