Can anyone help me with the ungroup option.I am trying to ungroup 9 shapes that i saved from google.I have read and followed the tutorials on the inkscape help section including doing the deep ungroup in the extensions tab
I am using the latest version of Inkscape. I don’t have the file that you are asking for unfortunately because I deleted it. I tried several SVG that were all grouped and I couldn’t ungroup any of them. I even followed what people on you tube were doing and still wouldn’t work.
Hi. Try uploading any files you are having problems with. Also try making groups yourself to eliminate possible bugs in your Inkscape. And always look at the information in the status bar.
Hi. I don’t have any files that I am having trouble with to upload. The only ones I tried to ungroup I just deleted them all. I don’t know how to make groups up in order to ungroup them. I would have to search YouTube for how to do it.Very limited knowledge of Inkscape. What information will I see in the status bar.
It's hard to know what's happening to you with so little information. In the status bar you can tell if there is a group, or several subgroups. Sometimes, even if the file contains different shapes, maybe it is not a group but all together, so you would have to separate it first. As for grouping and ungrouping, in the previous comment I have added a short video, I don't know if you have seen it.
I’m sorry if I’m not explaining myself very well but I can’t say it in a way for you to understand better. I am confused about what you said about shapes, groups being altogether and having to separate them.So do I have to separate them before I ungroup them?If that’s what you mean then I don’t have a clue what to do to be honest. I haven’t saw your video because when I click on it on my phone nothing is happening unfortunately.

Hi Jim. What version of Inkscape do you have? Can you upload the offending svg file?

Attached is an Inkscape SVG file, feel free to download it and see if it will ungroup for you.
Hi I have tried to ungroup your file but its not working
here is what i am trying to ungroup
OK. Let's start simply. Here is how it should work with the image I shared:
The image jim93670 shared is probably from a traced bitmap, and the grouped objects are based on multiple scans.
Using the results of the trace/scans may not provide expected results. Re-tracing with only two scans may work much better.
Also note that many of these types of ornaments are found online in vector format.
More on grouping here: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Groups.html
As @TylerDurden says, that file is unusable. I send you your file with all the re-done shapes so you can see the difference.
