I'm sorry if I'm asking a question that's already been answered but how do I remove the background on an image I found so I can export it as an SVG? When I try it shows the page background not the image background.

Go Document->Properties and check "Checkerboard" to get an idea where the transparency really is.

I did it'll show checkerboard for the background of the image but it still doesn't remove the background.ย

Itยดs not clear at least to me what kind of image youโ€˜re taslking about; my guess is itโ€˜s a bitmap. You canโ€˜t simply erase a background as you could in a dedicated bitmap editor where it is just a 1-click-bliss procedure. If you want to autotrace the image/bitmap in Inkscape there is an option to ignore the background color - but it still depends on the bitmap. You can mask or path clip parts of a bitmap in side Inkscape and save as an SVG - but it remains a bitmap in an SVG container. Feel free to upload an example file.

Like the carbon fiber background in this picture.ย

That is not a โ€žsimpleโ€œ background. Iโ€˜d use a dedicated bitmap editor like GIMP to extract the logo from the background if I canโ€˜t find the original somewhere or at the NSX forum.
