Hi! I've used inkscape on desktops for a couple years, but I recently got a laptop and downloaded inkscape to it.

The tool icons are so so super tiny on it, is there any way to make them bigger? I feel like I've looked everywhere lol please help!

Open up Preferences (via the Edit menu, bottom of the list), then go into Interface. You can adjust the toolbar icon sizes there.

    Welcome to the forum!

If the new computer has a high def or high dpi screen, even the largest icons will probably be too small.  But I think I heard that the upcoming new version 1.0 will have a fix.  And you might be able to already get the alpha version, depending on your operating system.

We have alpha versions for all common operating systems, fortunately.

The left side toolbar icons (select, edit paths, tweak objects, etc.) are very small. I've done all the steps disucssed here and elsewhere to no avail. Please advise. (version 0.92.4)

Were you able to try 1.0 alpha?  It's now available as beta.  It has a fix for the high def screen issue.  https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.0/?latest=1

Hopefully it won't be too long before it's released as stable.  I know devs are working feverishly to get all the old bugs fixed, for the long awaited 1.0 release!  But there's no definite date yet.  If it follows tradition, they will release it quietly when everyone least expects it.

I have found a work around to this issue for windows. I have a high DPI screen and the text and buttons used to be so tiny!  If you go to the Inkscape download location, right click on the application icon and select Properties.  Then go to the Compatibility tab and select "Change high DPI settings" (near the bottom).  In the new window, make sure the "Override high DPI scaling behavior" box is checked, and the "Scaling performed by" drop down is set to System.  I did this and the restarted the application and the buttons were normal size again.  They were not as crisp as other applications, but they are large enough that I can see them properly.  The following video, although for a different application, shows the same process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNO_Kv_DYMA

Should not be necessary anymore with Inkscape 1.0 and higher. Just use the preferences.
