Beginners' Questions I can't seem to move my object.

I am new. I made a simple butterfly silhouette in inkspace using a windows computer. After making a red line around it and deleting the the black I played with the nodes and got it just right. I no longer can move this one layered image. I am making a card and wanted to move this aside to make the basic card to put it on. Any ideas? It's only one layer. It was fine untill I deleted a couple things between the nodes.

Check the Layers and Objects panel to see if you've accidentally locked something. There are padlock icons to the left of the layer and object names. Make sure these aren't locked.

You can find these panels under Layers > Layers, or Objects > Objects. The panels should open at the right hand side (if they're not open already.)

I can't see where anything is wrong. Thanks for answering and I will attach a print screen..

Strange that nothing is present in the Status bar - but please open Object->Objects… to get access to your drawing.

I just know it has something to do with layers because layers are always my downfall. But it still wont let me move it. Thanks for all your help.

Right now you have the Node-tool active and nothing is selected. Please use "S"elect Tool to grab and move your objects.

Thanks for all the good advice. I am learning here. The butterfly seems to be attached to the drawing board. I can move the whole thing but not the butterfly only. I am such a newbie with inkscape.

Best bet is you´re uploading your file for further investigation.

    Here´s mine for comparison.

Well...you are awesome and have even taught me some things BUT it's still stuck and now I can't even move the board under the butterfly. I think I will scap it and start over and hope I don't make the same mistake. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks so much for your time!

Maybe it´s simple and Inkscape->Preferences->System->Reset Preferences (restart Inkscape) will help.

OK...I went back and remade things and at the same point had the same problem. I went to the basic tutorial in help. That was awesome and I should have went there first. Then I went to some other on line help sites. Between all of them and including right here,  I figured out a few little things that made all the difference. One was the lock situation on layers. Another was where I grabbed on the butterfly outline. You have to actually grab the thin outline to move it! I really should have known that but for some reason I didn't. But the whole moving of objects on the canvas and including moving the canvas work in a way none of my other programs do. So the basic tutorial helped with that! So I finally edited an svg, and made a 3D butterfly that is partially cut out on the front of a card. Simple...BUT...the knowledge I received from using inkspace was amazing! Also I am always learning Design Space. The more I do it the more I remember. I couldn't have done it without you all right here!  I like to manipulate my own things. I'm sure you will see me again.

So glad my stuff was able to also help someone else! I have learned so many programs. Too bad they don't all work more similar and use the same terminology. Design Space is odd in that way. I feel like I will really like Inkspace. Unfortunately I haven't been an expert in any! I am wondering if I can do the same things in PSP. I haven't learned that program well enough either.
