I just downloaded Inkscape to try out, and I'm very used to being able to press delete to clear a layer entirely, but I cannot figure out how to do that in Inkscape?
I also can't figure out how to just draw a circle outline and not a fully color-filled in circle?

To delete all objects in a layer, Ctrl+A, Del.
To delete a layer, select the layer in the Layers dialog and use the minus button at the bottom of the dialog.
To draw an object without a fill, select the tool and click the red X at the leftmost end of the palette.
