Thanks for the info, it didn't work for me, told me file is blocked to prevent sender indentifying my computer. So I tried Microsoft PowerTools, didn't work either. Tried Adobe Bridge but the interface is soo dark it and small it was hard to do anything with it. So now I'm trying Gimp. So far it does show my svg files as images I can view.
I'm just learning how to do this so anything too technical and I'm lost. I need to be able to see where and how things work.
I didn´t want you to install any fishy third party apps. I thought you´d just need to enable a certain "button" to make Windows renders previews of SVGs. Seems not the case. Bummer. But I can´t do anything in this regard for you then.
Querying the OP on which OS at the outset could avoid a lot of needless discussion. e.g the OP might be using the Store version of Windoze, which is more locked-down.

Just to clearify for future readers. Windows 10 in S mode is designed for security and performance, exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store. Powertoys is available in Microsoft Store.
If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode. Switching out of S mode is one-way. If you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 10 in S mode.
After this you got a Home or Pro version, depending on choice. Microsoft Store is of course still available.
All the files I make with Inkscape have the same black icon on them so I have to open them to see what they are. Is it possible to change that??
Thanks
I guess that´s OS dependent. Most likely you´re not on macOS. Don´t know how to enable SVG previews on Windows nor Linux.
For Windows you can try this maybe: https://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-enable-svg-preview-with-windows-explorer

Maybe post your OS/version...

Depends on the OS version.
I'm using this: https://code.google.com/archive/p/svg-explorer-extension/downloads
I'm using Microsoft PowerToys (Windows 10 and 11).

Microsoft PowerToys=Microsoft PowerTools as per reply #3?
Probably.
