If I'm understanding you correctly, you'll need to make a font out of your individual letters & numbers, then install it in your operating system. Take a look at FontForge. It can help you create the font.

Kay at cleversomeday.com made a good tutorial some time ago. I haven't tried it recently, but it worked in 0.9x.x versions.

There is a template file that might not download from box.com, so I've attached it here.

    Hi Tyler Durden

Your Attachment  did not open when I click on the link.  Is this attachment file needs a special app to open it.

Usually, click on the attachment button and then right-click on the filename provides a menu.

This doesn't do me any good. I still can not open the file to use it..

What software can I use that's simple and friendly to use and up to date  that will work in turning my letters and numbers into Fonts.  Then installing them in inkscape.0.92.

This is Tyler´s file saved as Inkscape SVG (he saved as optimized SVG), it just contains the blank canvas and a ruler for the base line:

Can you try this file please?

    PixelPest  Thanks

The file still does not open for me when I click on the file..    Thanks Tyler.

If Tyler went to inkscape and made a copy of the inkscape  blank canvas and added the ruler line and Layers, And name the file Fontstarter.svg and just saved it as an optimized SVG file.. Then post it here.. I don't need that..  I can do this in inkscape my self.

Here's what I done already I drawn number's 0-9 and letters A-Z  on paper the way I need them to look like.  Then I scanned them to my desktop and save them to my computer. BUT they need some work to them and to resize them inkscape. But' what I don't know is how turning them into Fonts, Then installing those fonts on to my operating system.

Yes!! I did look at her video. She has made some shapes, and then turn them into fonts.  But she only used inkscape to make those shapes into fonts. As I understand. If that's the case all I need is inkscape  to turn my letters and numbers into fonts. Can I use just inkscape to make fonts then install them with inkscape on my computer. If not then i must not be understanding what another steps or software she's using.  I don't have advance working in inkscape..

Forgot to mention. Is Kay in her video making a TTF  True Type Font or does it matter for text in a text editor like in inkscape's text. Would I NEED a TTF Fonts.

I really don't know this in the subject of making Text Fonts.

I really don't know this in the subject in making Text Fonts.

I look at her Video a second time and did see she used a font convert to get her fonts. So I'm assuming inkscape is not making the font. Then what does inkscape  actually doing. If you can explain to help me to understand this process on making fonts.

Inkscape makes SVG files with shapes/glyphs assigned to keys. Once the SVG file is finished, it can be converted to TTF.

If I already had shapes, I'd import my shapes into the provided template.

There is a PDF file with descriptions and instructions on Kay's webpage, if you prefer reading pdf to reading online.

I'd try right-clicking on the rectangle in PixelPet's post (#10) and use the menu to save the image. Then follow Kay's pdf instructions.

    New Questions? Please Help!

One! In Kay's video She uses Shapes for her Fonts and she installs each shape one at a time...

How do I install my Letters? Do I need to install them one at a time to match the Letters in the gylp from A thru Z. Or do I, or can I install all the Letters all at once with letter gylp A only.

Two!  How do I make the correct space between each letter if I install each letter one at a time with matching each letter signed to each gylp letter.   I don't understand this.

Three! How big do I make my letters to to match the letters in the inkscape text editor for my fonts or dose this matter the size. I just don't know.

Four! In her video she doesn't use the Base line in the fontstarter svg file  Because she used shapes. I will need to use the base line for my letter's and numbers.

How do I use this base line do I put the letters on top of the base line or under the line. Don't know.

Five!  Same question's for installing my Numbers 0-9.   I did make the correct spacing for my numbers so if I install them all together as one glyp on letter A glyp will they turn into one whole number font 0-9 or will they be come separate numbers in the text editor in  inkscape. I just don't know this How will they turn out.
