I have no clue why sometimes I can get this to work and sometimes not. As an example, say I have a circle on my drawing. It is filled and has a border. I would like to cut this circle into 2 pieces. I draw a bezier line through the circle with lots of overhang on either side. So how do I cut it into 2 pieces? First I select the circle object, then the line. I go to the Path menu and see all the options, and select break apart, and it doesn't seem to do anything. I try various options in this menu and none of them seem to do anything. The weird thing is that I did somehow get this working at times in other drawings. But I cannot understand what I did then or what I'm doing wrong now.
Yes, I've seen that. And if I create a brand new blank document and draw shape or simple closed bezier objects, it works just like documented. But I'm in a drawing I'm working on and it does not work. That is what is confusing me. Am I in some sort of mode that prevents it from working correctly? Can I attach my svg for you to see?
If you mean the small circle above the green-ish rectangle, look at the taskbar at the bottom when you click it. That circle is in a group. Ungroup it (you'll need to do this a couple of times - it seems to have been grouped, then grouped again), then try the combine operation again.
Keep an eye on the bottom taskbar. If it says 'two objects selected of type 'rectangle', 'group'.... it won't work. All objects need to be paths or shapes, NOT groups.
Hi,
New to Inkscape. Using 1.0.1.

Maybe you have seen this: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-Combining.html

Open the file and select the circle and the rectagle and try to combine or any other option and see what happens. It is not working for me.

Thank you so much. Didn't see or know that. It now works.
