    Here's another method.

    Use the star tool [shift+8] to draw a pentagon. Turn on [snap to cusp nodes]. Use the bezier tool [b] to draw a five point star inside the pentagon. Change the fill and stroke to black and increase the stroke width. Turn on [snap to intersections]. Use the bezier to draw this red shape (see below) inside the star.
