Beginners' Questions High resolution monitors

I'm thinking of getting a bigger monitor (for my 1366 x 768 laptop), say 2560 x 1440, 27" in order to work on a bigger canvas for large/multiple diagrams.  When I recently plugged into a friend's big screen (I think it was 3840 x 2160) the outlines of the drawings I had done on the laptop were jagged.  I didn't have the chance to draw new objects while thus connected.   So, should a drawing object display with a smooth outline (e.g. to the limits of the pixel definition) on a high-definition screen?  Surely this is the idea of a vector-based graphic but I can understand there may be other limits on display resolution.

Or is there a setting that can be changed to make full use of the full resolution of large screens?

Describe your OS & version, the version of Inkscape and the installer you used, plus any special hardware like tablet/stylus.

There might be a hi-dpi selector in preferences, maybe in the Interface section... I'm not at a 1.0+ machine to check today.

Would this under edit > preferences > interface > Windows > "save and restore window geometry..."  and should be un-selected?

Mmm..., I think not.  Someone will chime in, or I'll be back.

    👍

Update:  There may not be a problem.  I plugged into my 1920 x 1080 TV and with the display resolution set at that on the laptop, the lines looked OK.  I still think the rendition was not perfect w.r.t. the pixel size but it looked quite useable for my graphics work.  I'm thinking a monitor of this definition (and not 2560 x 1440) at 24 or 27" will be quite adequate.
