Hi guys! I'd have a very basic beginner question. I draw in the classical way, by hand, with ink, black and white. I would like to print some of the drawings on cloth, but in order to do that I need to get the background completely white. As you know, the imported files (photos of drawings on paper) usually have a greyish background. I downloaded Inkscape but can't find my way. I repeat: complete beginner(!)
I can't even find the lever for contrast, brightness etc.
I'd also like to know, whether you can vectorise a drawing with Inkscape?
If you could answer these questions that would be rreally great!
Yes, Inkscape is a vector graphics editor. It creates and edits vector graphics. It cannot edit very much raster images, such as your scanned sketches or inks. That's why it's hard to find controls for contrast or brightness.
Inkscape does have many filters which work on the colors of imported raster images. Look at Filters menu > Color. And some extensions as well. Look at Extensions menu > Raster. But if you're already familiar with raster graphics editors, it might be easier for you to adjust the background to be pure white, in a raster editor. And then import to Inkscape.
However, if you have to get vector paths anyway, then the background is irrelevant. If I understand the type of drawing you mean, you would probably want to vectorize it by tracing with the Pen tool. But you're welcome to share an example drawing, so we're all on the same page, so to speak.
