Hi, I really hope I am missing something important here - recently switched from a much older version to 1.3.2, I have the following problem:
1. I select a few objects/paths and make a group. 2. I change the opacity to 50% on group level in the layers view (opacity change is shown to be changed for the group/container - the individual objects still have opacity at 100%) 3. I ungroup the whole thing - now each individual object is assigned the 50% opacity.
I don't mind this per se + see the logic behind it, but my real problem is, I cannot seem to find a *fast* way to change opacity (e.g. collectively) for all of those objects after step 3. The fill+strike shows 100% opacity, in the layers view it shows the 50%.
Is there any setting or method I could use (instead of going through all individual objects and setting the opacity on "layer" level)? I rely heavily on frequent grouping/ungrouping to manage my objects, so I'd appreciate any pointers...
When ungrouping, the objects in the group will be selected... changing the opacity using the control in the status bar or in the Fill/Stroke dialog should be straightforward.
NB If you have recently updated the version, I suggest resetting the preferences. This will not change the above behavior, but it's usually recommended.
the fill and stroke menu shows opacity at 100% even if it isn't.
which slider do you mean? I see only the option to click on the little square/opacity "menu" field in the layer view (middle image), if I do that and move the slider the opacity is adjusted for *one* object (leftmost image), but I need to set it for *all* at once:
(read images from right to left, sorry)
btw thanks for the upgrade tip, but it was a clean, separate install, so technically not an update of an old version.
There is also a numeric opacity control in the style section of the status bar (lower left), which can be used.
When you say clean install, did that include deleting the Inkscape user config in ./AppData/Roaming/ (or similar in other OS)? That is usually not part of the uninstall process, so that the preferences are not disturbed. (But with recent changes, it is best to reset the preferences.

Bahaha, I am so dumb, I did not scroll down far enough in the fill/stroke menu, *that's* the correct slider 🤦♀️
Thanks for the hint!

Ah, understood, thanks again!
