My apologies for seeming stupid, but I'm afraid your suggested steps were a bit 'over my head'
At first I was encouraged to read' It will work with these details'
- A copy of the Inkscape file should be saved as "Plain SVG".
- The plain copy needs to have the "defs" and "metadata" elements removed via text editor such as Notepad++.
- It looks complicated, but it's as easy as using email. Just delete the highlighted lines and save. Then upload.
I'd definitely go to the small effort to avoid png uploads.
Whilst looking up 'Text Editors' online I stumbled across this: https://superuser.com/questions/739525/removing-personal-data-from-svg-file
"Of course I could do it in a text editor manually, but that has some disadvantages:
it's error-prone. You need to be quite sure what you're doing. There should be a safer way to do it. it's time-consuming. There should be a quicker way to do it. it might be incomplete. Maybe there is other personal data I have not discovered yet."
That left me somewhat anxious to go ahead
However your instructions here :

Would those ' Just delete the highlighted lines and save. Then upload.' be the IDENTICAL steps for any personal svg I wanted to 'strip' before uploading a file to Canva?

Would this make things 'easier' for anyone who felt uncertain about using Text Editors to strip the file?
Meh... I'm not sure I'd call that easier, plus there is the conundrum of sending a file containing personal information to an unknown web service, to remove that personal information before sending to another web service.
For those unsure about using a text editor, they should be using a copy of the original anyway... so no big deal if the copy gets clobbered somehow.
Hi Tyler
I too have had mostly failed attempts at uploading svg files to use in canva...😞
The ones I was able to upload & use in canva turned out to be 'uneditable'
So I was interested to read your reply here https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/upload-svg-files-to-canva/

Your instruction here Tyler: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/upload-svg-files-to-canva/#c19142 seemed VERY straightforward thank you

Lastly I came across this: 'Free Online SVG Document Metadata Editor & Cleaner' https://products.groupdocs.app/metadata/SVG
Would this make things 'easier' for anyone who felt uncertain about using Text Editors to strip the file?
Many Thanks for your time & assistance
Tam
Yes, I think so.
