New user, having nightmares with Fill and Stroke. Have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled Inkscape 3 times. Can't get fill color or stroke color to work. Opacity set at 100%, Display Mode is Normal. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

What does Status Bar tells about your selection (bottom of the Inkscape window)?

It says fill is red and stroke is black, but it does not show up that way on the preview picture.

Please share an example Inkscape svg file.

To attach: click the paperclip button below the text area.

The Inkscape text object has a fill opacity of zero.

Opacity value can be adjusted at many levels:

    • Fill
    • Stroke
    • Object
    • Group
    • Layer

Using your example, I tried to change the red to checkerboard and red and adjusted opacity up and down, but still get nothing. Is there a button that says "apply" when I select these patterns and colors? I truly appreciate your help.
