It worked fine, but now I try to use it again it is not in theΒ menue Extensions - Arrange any more. The files group_to_layer.inx and group_to_layer.py are still in the directory Program Files - Inkscape -share - extensions.
I am using the windows version Inkscape 1.1, the same as when I used the extension before. What can have happened?
I do'nt know wat exactly you mean with "any group can be set to layer". I would do that by making a layer, put the group in it and than ungroup the group. But what the extension did was much more than that.
I sometimes work with svg files that are made forΒ Adobe Illustrator. They have a structure with nested groups, and the groups have names. With the extention I could whith one command change the whole structure into named layers and sublayers.
If that is possible in the Objects & Layers panel I would like to learn it!
Some months ago I downloaded the extension group to layer (I found it here: http://www.pernsteiner.org/inkscape/group_to_layer/.)

I can't say about the extension. It may be moot, since any group can be set to layer in the Objects & Layers panel (dialog).Β

It won't be a single command.
Since Layers in Inkscape are actually tagged groups, any group or sub group can be a layer or sub layer. The Objects dialog has the toggle buttons.
Probably not hard to use a text editor to make the change en masse.
Or, maybe it's ok to leave it, if the objects panel has the visual hierarchy you need.

Looks like Mario has included an updated version with Mightyscape extension pack:

If you scroll down it is there.
Hello Tyler,
I didn't now groups and layers are interchangeble that easy. You opened a new world for me, thanks!
This is much more flexable than group-to-Layer.
Hello inklinea,
Thanks to you too! I found it in gidhub and tryed to install it, but still group-to-layer doesn't appear.
Maybe I do something wrong, I do'nt fully understand gidhub. It doesn't matter, I do'nt need group-to-layer any more.
