I'm trying to install the extension Ink / Stitch ( https://inkstitch.org/ ) on my Macbook Pro running Catalina 10.15.7 and Inkscape 1.0. It's showing up in the extensions drop-down menu when I open Inkscape, except all options within it (besides a couple menus) are greyed out and unclickable.
I have tried:
- downloading the extension from the website and unzipping it into the folder found at "user extensions"
- using Terminal to open the folder found at "Inkscape extensions" and downloading and unzipping into there
- using Terminal to use curl (which honestly I don't even know what that is, I just copied and pasted, but it certainly downloaded it, because there was a little text progress bar and everything, and then all the files showed up) to download it the way it says to on the website if you have Catalina (though it says that's to avoid an error message that I never got)
- I have been googling for DAYS and I've completely deleted and reinstalled both Inkscape AND the extension SEVERAL times each and the results are always the same
This error is because one of the requirements that the extension needs is missing. When you load inkscape up from the command line, does it give you a warning at all about the missing dependency?
Have you contacted the InkStitch project to ask them if they've seen this problem before?
I don't think reinstalling Inkscape or the extension is going to do much, since it's all about something else being missing.
I haven't gotten any warnings or dialogue boxes or anything, unless they're hidden and I don't know what I'm looking for, which is entirely possible. I'll go see if I can contact someone from InkStitch.
UPDATE!!!!!!!ย I didn't realize I had one extra folder, the one it all came in, that I had to take everything out of!! The instructions said to unzip it directly into the extensions folder ... which I did ... but THEN there's the EXTRA step of dragging everything that got unzipped UP ONE FOLDER LEVEL!!!!ย
I had the same problem, i'm still just notย sure which folders I should copy into the extensions folder. because when I copied the whole thing Inkstich pops up in the extensions but all the options are greyed out and unusable.ย
I downloaded the ink/stitch file and got a folder called "inkstitch-v1" and inside contains another folder called "inkstitch" with multiple folders within.ย

That sounds like it works now.

you donโt want to copy the files, you just want to drag them โ itโs just every single item that came out of the zip file.
for me, the problem was i had:
extensions > inkstitch v.1 >ย inkstitch folder & files
when i needed:
extensions > inkstitch folder & files
i also posted a SUPER in depth process over on reddit, down in the comments of this post:
