My document I'm trying to create is simply to combine 3 high resolution images into one figure. I'll open each one of them in MSPaint, go to file-> Properties to check the dpi, and they are all 300. Also they seem "normal", i.e. file size seems appropriate for a 300 dpi image. When I import them into inkscape and line them up, I then export them using these settings:
- image size: width: 6094, height: 1676, 300 dpi
-Advanced settings: phys dpi at 300 (read somewhere that forces it to be 300)
-Compression: no compression
Seems to export and file size seems KINDA appropriate, but when I check the dpi in paint it says 96. What gives? I've also tried exporting at 96 dpi with 300 phys dpi, and various combinations thereof. Never comes out at something that paint says is 300 dpi.
Thanks everyone for their input! Yes, I believe paint was scaling it up and so 300 dpi at the size I exported was no longer 300 dots per inch at the blown up size in Paint.
Hello, definitely a beginner and first post. I'm having trouble exporting an image at 300 dpi (requirement I need for journal I'm submitting to).
I see other people have had my problem, such as this question: https://inkscape.org/forums/questions/maintaining-image-size-and-dpi-when-exporting-as-an-image-file-png/ , but I still seem to be having trouble.

Please provide links to example svg and png files. You can upload to dropbox, google etc. and share. (They may be too large to attach here.)
File explorer will display the correct DPI if you turn on the column for Horizontal resolution (right click column header to select from list).
The 96 DPI you see in Paint is telling me your scaling is set to 100% in your display settings.
