How to import dwg files into Inkscape?

Inkscape can import dxf files but not dwg.

Dwg is a proprietary file format, while dxf is open source.

They are very similar, most of the difference is the compression (dwg is in binary characters.)

Thus even if you don't have the original/cad program at hand to save as dxf instead, you can use 3rd party programs for the conversion.
