Hello, I am trying to divide a photo that I made in Inkscape and converted to a .png. I watched several tutorials and came up with these steps:
Draw a line with the Bezier tool where you want the divide
Click Object > Pattern > Object to Pattern
Press Shift and select the photo and line
Click Path > Division
Unfortunately, the result is not as expected. Instead of dividing the photo into two pieces (the top bar and the side bar), it cuts out a small sliver of the photo and leaves the other two pieces attached to each other.

What am I doing wrong?
That definitely is not what should happen.
Before proceeding further, I'd reset the preferences, relaunch Inkscape and test again.

Perhaps the slice function of LPE can help you in this case. Here is a short videoย https://youtu.be/pHX8xYQ-268
Thank you both!
Resetting preferences unfortunately did not change it.
I was able to slice them, hooray! But now when I export the separate pieces into .png files, for some reason the white space is saving as well?
The transparency appears to be working in the browser...
