Have you tried "Erase Objects and Paths" with these settings already? You can hold shift key to maintain a more straight line - but still seems depending on the "speed" you´re drawing. But no extra tool or operation needed.
BTW - Path->Cut Path will do just straight cuts and you´ll loose applied style - if you want a more advanced approach I´d use Path->Division instead - even though it´s not very quick.
Ideally hoping to just cut the edge points without adding the new paths built in the middle. Cut path actually does this (at least for objects with no fill).
The timer on the right was made with cut path...which works great. It's not too much extra effort. But sometimes with more extensive illustrations I'm cutting a lot of lines and objects.
Is there a tool to cut vector objects...such as splitting a circle into separate semicircles or chopping a line in half?
I can achieve this by creating an extra 'cutting object' and the doing Path > Cut Path.
But I'm hoping for a scissors-type tool to just 'pick' cut points instead.
New user...tool is great. Thanks, Mike

Very close...and that helps.

Huh - please consider another approach:
Very cool. Thanks
