Let's say I draw a circle, then a line that goes across the circle. Now, I'd like to cut out the segment of the line inside the circle (as if the circle was filled and on top of the line). How do I do that?
It seems I can't add pictures to my question, so I hope I was clear.

Can you try to select both and go Path->Cut? Line must be on top of circle.
That just cuts my circle in half.
But you actually put me on the right track!
Select circle, clone, place the clone on top, select line and clone, Path > Cut Path, remove the segment inside the cicle. 😀
As "usually" I misread the briefing. Another method could be to introduce new nodes where line and circle meet and delete end nodes then. ;-)
