I have just tried to create my own palette in Inkscape.

I am trying to create my own custom palette.
I found the files in C:\program Files/inkscape/share/palettes, and I opened it in Word Pad. But when I tried to save the file I got a message that I was denied access by Word Pad.
I used the Flamingo red one already set up and tried to delete ONE colour in Word Pad, and again I was denied access.
Hi Colin, You could try copying this file to a different place on your pc. Then you open and work on it.
Afterwards, you place the file in the user's directory, not in the program files! If this directory \palettes does not exist, you can make one. For example, mine is here: C:\Users\Kirsten\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\palettes
Exactly how are you trying to create a custom palette?ย I'm not sure what you're doing with Word Pad.ย (I've never found a use for WordPad in 20 years of using Windows, so I'm not sure what it's purpose is in the first place, haha.)ย Maybe Notepad would work better?
Agreed. Open Notepad > new document, > copy paste content of your existing palette to it.
Now, do the necessary edits in the RGB area (ie, the Left Hand Side area ) of the file ( Right hand side is comments ). Save the file as newPalettename.gpl . Place it among existing palettes and restart Inkscape. You can now see and use your new palette.
THanks for the guidance. I have done as Kirstie suggested and although I now have the palette file (.gpl file) in my Inkscape/share/palettes directory, when I actually open Inkscape document the palette does not show on the screen when I click on the bottom right of the Inkscape list of palettes in the document. All the other palettes are shown but not the one I just created.
Hi Colin, So, your first problem was solved. You have been able to open and edit the gpl file. Well done! Now for the next problem: - Have you tried restarting Inkscape? - Did you also change the name of the palette inside the text file? Maybe there are two palettes with the same name now? In the gpl fil the name is at the beginning. That is the name that will show up in the list.
I suggested that you try to save your own palettes not in the Inkscape/share/palettes directory, but in the user's directory. Why? That is a safer place, in case you ever re-install Inkscape. Then your custom palette will not be deleted.
I'm having a similar problem. I've created a text file withย my palette name and custom hex color list, saved it and changed the file extension to .gpl
It's in theย /home/marcs/.var/app/org.inkscape.inkscape/config/inkscape/palettes directory
Does not show up in the palettes menu list after an update.
I'm running Zorin OS 16 Pro (a Ubuntu derivative), Inkscape version 1.1 installed from flatpak
I have just tried to create my own palette in Inkscape.

I was able to save a palette by simply using the Save-as dialog, and saving the .gpl to the directory indicated in my system preferences.
Mint 20.3
I'd try a similar simple test with two colored objects on the canvas.
