Beginners' Questions Converting open to closed loops

    Hi all,

I spent some time tracing the lines of a pickup truck for a project I'm working on. The problem is that I need all of the loops to beΒ closed. I drew it with tracing lines and not looping everything around (the step, for example), making it difficult to select specific project areas.

Typically, I would take a screenshot of this, do the "trace to bitmap" command, and save it as an SVG. This usually works for me, but in this case, much of the detail gets lost with the low-resolution screenshot.

Is there any way to simply do this with a command? Or do I need to take the screenshot and "trace to bitmap" every time?

    Thanks!

You might be able to simply use Path>Stroke to path, if what you have are open paths that just have strokes for width.

Feel free to share an example svg file, or a portion of the work as svg.

Hey Tyler, I was unable to get much out of using that method. I am looking for an easier way to "fill" certain shapes, such as the steps on the side. I could go through and redraw most of it to achieve this but it would take almost twice as long to complete them.

I attached the SVG file I am looking to edit. I drew this mostly for aesthetics, meaning it lacks some "functionality".

    Thanks!

It looks like there were filled paths that had strokes, and Stroke to Path converted them to groups of two paths: one was the fill and oneΒ was the stroke.

The group can be ungrouped, the path that was the fill can be deleted and the path that was the stroke can be broken apart, then unioned to create a single filled path with no stroke.

There are a few like this, but it won't take very long.

OHHHH.... wait.... I think I see what you mean now...

You want the areas that are transparent to have a fill color?

I just dragged the artwork off the page and saw this.

Bucket fill solves issue such as this. Wish I discovered it centuries ago.Β
