Beginners' Questions combining all paths

I've recently been teaching myself inkscape. I can't find help anywhere.

The biggest issue is knowing the NAME of the PROCESS i'm trying to accomplish - if I don't know what its called, i can't search for help. Hopefully this is that simple...

I've got a multi-layered design that I want to "merge visible" (is the term used in photoshop): i want one layer with all the paths connected, so i can send the design to printer without getting it screwed up.ย

What is the name of this process?

    thanks!

Because we donยดt know how your layers are designed we can only guess:

    1. in case all elements have the same features in stroke and fill color (Styles) you can go Path->Combine

    2. in case the elements have different Styles you can only go Object->Group

    Hopefully this makes sense somehow.

If we're talking about a local inkjet printer, then there's no need to change anything in your drawing. The page you see on the screen will be printed, regardless of the drawingย structure. That said, Inkscape is not good at printing. The most reliable approach is [File > Save a Copy...] and select pdf as the file type. Use your favourite pdf application to send this new file to the printer.
