I made a line drawing (pentagram iris..like in a camera). I joined all my nodes and there are no open joins. I now would like to fill sections of it with color but I cannot. I tried both with bucket as well as with fill and stroke (read about the two methods) but all I got with the fill and stroke was an entire background filled with the color...my image is transparent.
Yes, I was unable to do that, however I found a wonderful YouTube video which entirely explained everything. So I am good now thank you. It had to due with layers and such. YouTube Video that explains

Each petal should be a separate object, for separate fills.
