Beginners' Questions Closing a line figure

Hi. Very new to Inkscape, but amazed at the product and the community.

I am trying to generate an svg file to use as a cutting path along the outside of a shape for Shaper Origin.  I had a bit mapped image that I was able to convert to an svg file.  Everything seemed to be going well until I tried to use the file.  I could not modify the type of cut as it was identified as an "open path" that could not be used to simply cut the outline of the figure.  On closer inspection, the file has a small discontinuity in the line of what was to be a closed shape.  The program path that was created placed nodes all around the inside of the line and continued them around the outside of the line leaving the gap opening. The path is a single continuous path that does not anything but the boundary line.  I have tried various ways to try to close the line figure, but nothing works. I have tried to use the "union" function, drawn in a bridging segment, etc.to no avail.  I do not know how to explain this better and I will try to upload an image of the area in the image in question.

Any thoughts on how to connect two lines end to end in an svg file that will work?

    Thanks!

Given your 2 ends are from 1 shape you can try this:
