Please help. :( Love using Inkscape. I'm not sure what I did, but I cannot clip anything. Either it clips everything and leaves blank, or a line or clips the opposite. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Thank you.
Thank you. Tyler, when I'm in there it won't allow me to delete, or write over the preference, even if I hit the reset. Attaching a photo of what I'm seeing. Thank you.
OK would it be really weird if it now is working? I don't think I did anything. But, I tried again with an image and it worked. Then, I tried again with the yellow circle and success. I must have a ghost. lol Thank you.
I wonder. I wonder if me trying to click that reset preferences reset it all. I didn't think it was doing anything. So, that reset must have fixed it. It's working now! I can't thank you guys enough.
i have the same problem, when im clipping some basic shape the clipping tool will works, but when i try to alot of image and object it doesnt work, is there anyone have the same problem like me?
Having the SAME EXACT ISSUE as "TonyaandDexter," and it's extremely frustrating. When I try to clip shapes it happens inversely and the original shape disappears. It doesn't matter if the shape is on the top or on the bottom it seems to do it inversely from the way I want it, I think it's toying with me.
I saw the steps suggested and I'm not able to change the users preferences either or edit them at all. please help.
@goodart, Describe your OS & version, the version of Inkscape and the installer you used, plus any special hardware like tablet/stylus or multiple monitors.
Please also provide a screenshot of the Preferences>Behavior>Clippaths and Masks like the one above.

I'd try closing Inkscape, renaming the preferences.xml to preferences_old.xml. Inkscape will make a new one when you restart the program.
The preferences file location is shown in Inkscape's Edit>Preferences>System menu.
Make sure your path/rectangle is above the image. Otherwise describe step-by-step what you´re doing.

Pixel,
I have my object or image. I then make a shape (on top), select both. Object, click, set. Screen shot. Thank you.

@TonyaandDexter , Does the issue persist after clicking Reset Preferences? (Restart Inkscape after clicking reset.)

Keep in mind you can clip groups. Even groups of one.😎
