    Hi. Several possible ways. I suggest using the Scatter Extension.

    The Pattern has to be on the top (Page Up or Home key).

    If the reason you are putting the circles on the path is to just to make a 'Rosette Outline' I made a webpage to make that shape a long time ago.

    The Tiled Clones dialog is a powerful tool for building objects like this. Β 

    Editing shapes insideΒ the original group gives you very fine control of the final rosette.
