So I'm trying to design something with several lines of outlined text with filled text in the middle.
I've already downloaded and installed the font family and all the types that came with it-- i.e. Falling Sky Outline, Falling Sky Outline Bold, Falling Sky Light, etc.
In the Inkscape application you're supposed to be able to, after selecting your font, i.e. Falling Sky, to the right there's another spot right next to it where you can select "Normal, Italic, Bold" etc.
My problem is that even after installing all those fonts, that whole fmaily of Falling Sky, all I have is "Medium, Semi-Bold, Bold, and Heavy". No Outline, no Outline Italic, there's a ton that it's missing, and I really need the Outlined font. It isn't working on another font family I installed either.
If you say to look for another font that's orginally an outline font, it's really hard to find that because they're all a second style of another original font, all part of a family. I need an italicized outline font that is identical to an italicized filled font.
Is it something I did wrong or does Inkscape not support some font styles for whatever reason?
P. S. I'm on a time crunch and need a solution soon!
In this very specific case - you need an outline that is identical to the original font that works - you could remove the fill and add a stroke to the letters, maybe?
So, there's a known issue with that Inkscape version not finding all the fonts if they have some very specific styles (I think they override each other, not sure). I think some people have succeeded opening the font file with fontforge, changing some parameter (the name?), and saving it again. But you aren't allowed to do that with proprietary fonts, I think.
You could also try out if the current alpha version for Inkscape 1.0 works better displaying the text, but it has some other font-related issues, so that might not be an optimal solution currently, either, at least not for editing them.
Inkscape can fake italics, if that is ever what you need, just enter 'italic' in the font style box.
Since Inkscape uses SVG as its native file format, we need to take a quick look at how SVG describes font faces. SVG 1.1 (which for fonts is basically the same as CSS 2.1 ) defines the following font-selection properties:

That worked for what I need, thanks so much Maren! Not sure why I didn't think of that.
Does anyone else know how I might be able to change the font style in case I need to in the future?

Maren,
It's been a little while since I updated the program so I'll have to try that soon. Thank you
Tyler,
Thank you! I'm sure that will come in handy sometime. I've saved a screenshot of your list of properties.
