I have some vectors with a linear gradient from dark-blue to light-blue and would like to change the start colour to dark-red and the end-colour to light-red.
Unfortunately I can't find any possibilities to choose a hex colour code, or somehow to modify the gradients.
Meanwhile I just created a new gradient, though this is not the professional approach I know.
But the saved SVG doesn't show as it looks in Inkscape.
Though I have already been in the gradient properties in the fill and contour window before, I understand now that I have to press the gradient tool additionally which will show the start and end points, to be able to set the gradient values finally.
Do you have an idea what is broken with the svg and how I can get rid of these other gradient "layers" (these grey and blue)?
I I purge any of them the whole object is being deleted.
I think I would be able to create another new gradient if the vector "shape" as you call it was error free.
Could you help me to escape the "shape" of my graphic to be able to create a gradient later? Whatelse I do in the gradient dialog, everything (also the shape) disappears.
I just did some things. I coloured it now "free hand".
Focus was on result not on the way.
I really don't have any real control of what I'm doing. These layers within the gradient dialog are understandable to me at the work with this certain file. This is very frustrating to me not to understand the way it behaves :(
Don't get me wrong please. I'm not criticising anything. I'm so lucky to be able to use this software and to be able to talk to others who are into it more than mine and willing to help.

Maybe this:
Hex can also be used.
Thank you for your reply!
The point is I don't see this arrow (at bottom-left) to switch to the proper context menu.
I tested to create a new gradient. I prefer to recolor only to have the original effect but just for testing.
For new gradients I can set the color values.
Somehow surprising is, that the saved file is displayed outside of inkscape without gradient at all (the red objects in the attached file).
Also there are some strange gradients in it, too (grey, blue etc.) If I purge one of them (even with #=0) everything is gone.
Hmm...
The "arrow" will just appear when the window is resized in its height and all tool icons won't fit vertically anymore.
Thank you.
I can confirm that.
In my case there is no "gradient" option there.
There must be sth. else basically wrong with the graphic.
with my vector graphic
"Graphic"? - In your screenshot it's the icon under the "A" for "Text"-tool:
That is helpful to continue.

Hard to tell where exactly you stuck - I have to admit the Gradient-tool is not very intuitive as you can mess up pretty easy in many places - but
1. drawing the shape
2. grabbing the Gradient tool (G) and drag out the default gradient
3. go Fill+Stroke->Fill->Gradient
4. Hit "Edit" and adjust accordingly:
If a gradient is not used, it will be purged from the list. Also note that gradient handles can be snapped for precise positioning.
Further settings for gradient tool behavior are in the Preferences, found by double clicking on the tool.
Thank you very much to both of you.
