I got a .svg to rework in Inkscape. Is there a less tedious way ('trick'?) to center (horizontally) the symbols and lettering to the 'Grid' without lots of ungrouping/regrouping/grouping?
Center to 'Selection Area' works fine, but of course it needs to 'see' the proper objects to work.
I'm currently trying an approach using snapping (to center) and manually adjusting along guides. This way I only needed to ungroup the "Grid"-Layer. Not entirely happy ATM, but at least more straight forward than just with aligning.
The file I posted is just a small excerpt from the original. Alas, this is pretty much the only text object there - others are paths. And the guides are not always accurate or just not there.
Currently I'm trying snap midpoints of bounding box edgesย after I ungrouped the entire grid layer. Not sure if this is the way.
BTW, how would you center a guide to an object, like you did above?
Hi Marco, thanks for replying! Yes, that's very helpful too!ย I think I found a way meanwhile. The main issue was relying on the alignment features, which was kind of misleading. "Snap" is much better in this case.
Thanks Miza.ย This helps me to sharpen my skills too.
With practice, you'll find it easy to arrange and distribute elements around the page, especially when you remember the keyboard shortcuts.ย When I createย complex pages, I use Inkscape's layers to try to separate the document structure from the visual content as much as possible.ย
To create a centre guide I drew a vertical line, then centre-aligned it to the shape [ctrl+alt+num_pad_5], then converted the line to guide [shift+g].

Is there something I could do better?
Use centre-aligned paragraph format and snap to text anchors.ย
Wow, thanks a lot for creating this tutorial!

By activating also the snap button of "centre object" (the just below "snap other points"). Nice text btw.

Thanks, Paddy_CAD! Indeed getting into it, structuring with layers helps a lot!
Just discovered "converting to guides" and find it very helpful!
Thanks a lot, Michael.
