I would be very grateful for advice on the overall functionality that is meant to be used when doing a vector path trace of a bitmap.
My laptop is a fairly new Lenovo L340 with Windows 10 fully updated and version 1.0.1 of Inkscape installed. The online manual entry for Bitmap Tracing is obviously describing an earlier version of Inkscape but has enough in common for me to see that there are a number of options such as single or multiple scan and asociated scan settings to be adjusted to control how the bitmap is scanned and the data processed.Β Β I get the impression from the manual that after applying the desired settings normally you would be able to see what the resulting vector image should look like in the Preview window.Β Once happy with the settings, clicking on the Start button should then carry out the tracing process and the result should be visible on the main view of the page and you can then edit the vector image with tools as appropriate. However, the manual does not actually state this.Β Β When I try this out in practice using the Northern Pacific Railcar logo the preview image does not change whatever I do and the main page view image now has some vector points but these do not come out anyΒ different if I change the scan settings and bear no relation to the illustrations in the manual/tutorial example.
Can anyone please advise me if I am doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the trace facility in this version?
