Hi. After creating your text, you can click on the object (path) twice with the Select Tool (S)to bring up the rotation and skew handles. You can use the skew handles to adjust the item to whatever angle you wish.
You may wish to create a guide line first and set the guide line to a desired angle and use that when skewing (slanting) your text.
Thank you for the response but when I adjust the handles the angle of the entire word changes which is not what I am trying to do. Edwardian Script font has italic letters I'm trying make more vertical (less slanted forward) so that they are a little easier to read.
Tyler's gif file is right on, and shows one way how. You have to play with the skew angle(s) horizontally and vertically to achieve your desired result.
Does anyone know how I can adjust the angle of a script font (such as Edwardian Script) a little to the left?

Hi Ken,

Do you think this is possible to do in Inkscape?
Yes, I think so. See the graphic helow.
Yes, that is what I'm trying to do but a little less vertical. How is that accomplished?
I'd use the skew handles as Ken earlier advised.
Transforms including skew are covered in the first Tutorial in the Help menu.

I finally see what you are referring to and got it to work. Thank you for everyone's help and patience with me!
