Using Inkscape with Cutters/Plotters Bug? Path union creates artifacts

    Hello everyone,

When using path union to prepare a file for cutting i notice an unexpected behavior.

    Part of the drawing:

    Detail of a corner:

    Corner after executing "path union":

As you can see several new path segments get inserted.
This seems to be a consistent behavior, i was trying various different approaches.

If needed i can provide the file immediately before joining.

Did anyone else have this problem before? Please point me to the right forum-thread, i could not find any.

    Thanks a lot! Tobias

    Hi Tyler,

    please find attached the file.

Let me also try to explain how i got there.
The intention is to create a "Mandala generator" for laser-cutters.

    1. Create any object, clone, mirror and rotate a couple times (in this case 8)
    2. Draw simple Bezier-curves with a rather thick stroke. In the example the whole drawing consists on only 3 curves
    3. Use "convert stroke to path" so i only get the outlines that i want to cut
    4. Now take all clones and "path -> combine"
    5. The next step would be the "path -> union" and that where it fails
    6. FYI, i use version 1.0

Let me know if you can replicate my results,

    Thanks :-)

I would simply union the first quadrant's paths, without the combine operation. Then dup, flip, union; repeat..

Ungroup - Break Apart - Union - done

Thank you very much PixelPest, the last ungroup did the trick!

My apologies, i knew that grouping and path-operations don't work well together, but i was not making the link, thought i had all groups removed :-(

"Groupies" are the new hype in v1.0 and they suck: Convert text=Group, Object->Clip->Set=Group. 🙄
